Philippines prices hit year high

(Philippines Twitter)-Consumer price index rose by 4.5% in April from a year earlier, said the National Statistics Office. It was the highest gain since April 2010.

Median forecast in a Reuters poll of 13 analysts was for the consumer price index to have risen an annual 4.4 percent last month, reflecting the biggest rise since April 2010.

Annual April headline inflation data came in near the upper end of a central bank forecast of 3.7 percent to 4.7 percent.

Central bank Governor Amando Tetangco said on Tuesday a new inflation forecast for 2011 would be announced after its policy meeting today. In March, the central bank estimated average inflation this year to come near the upper end of the government's target of 3-5 percent.

Central banks in Asia have been trying to rein in rising prices without hurting economic growth.

  2. That is not really a good news. I really wonder when is the time that all the prices of goods and everything sold go down. It always goes up. Good if our country is going up in terms of economy as well.
